welovethebeekeeper: Need to give my view on the ‘all his friends hate’ John issue. First
welovethebeekeeper:Need to give my view on the ‘all his friends hate’ John issue.Firstly, according to the blog, the ‘friends’ that attended the birthday bash were all people we know LOVE John. So we have to presume Sherlock is referring to other people that he thinks may be present. Maybe colleagues from the surgery, rugby team, or old army friends?Sherlock has deduced that these people hate John. Why? Sherlock has apparently been present to make the deduction of their facial expressions which has changed the dynamic of John’s friendship group. When Sherlock is with John, everyone else pales in comparison as far as John is concerned. John, when he is JohnandSherlock, is not the John the friends know. They dislike this John. It’s a common occurrence when people couple up, especially if the couple are head over heels, they change, and the friends and family usually dislike this fact. I think that is what Sherlock has observed in the facial expressions of the friends. Sherlock has just failed to know why, he’s missing something, so he wanted to tell John to protect John, and also keep John all to himself.John accepts Sherlock’s comments in the video regarding this issue because he knows and understands why Sherlock has come to that conclusion. When his friends have spoken to John alone, I am sure more than one have asked him what the hell is he doing with an arrogant bastard, told him he’s changed, told him they are worried. John knows that people don’t understand. He says so in his blog. [I presume the blog was coordinated with the content of the mini episode] It’s a very common occurrence. It’s happened to me with my partners. This is really interesting because on Elementary, Joan’s friends at one point even stage an intervention (!) to get her to rethink her attachment to Sherlock (and her leaving her career, which is slightly different here). But it’s interesting to think that there might be a similar dynamic in BBC Sherlock, only more subtextually done. -- source link
