thechosenpumbloom: thegreatklaid: tangobunny: When beating Super Mario Bros 2 in Super Mario All-Stars recently, I noticed this in the cast roll. The boss that people call ‘Birdo’ is actually ‘Ostro’. Apparently this was the same in the original SMB2, too. Wikis claim that this was a mistake and was changed in Super Mario Advance, but if both the original game and remake called the character Ostro, surely it was the manuals that got it wrong rather than the game? Well that would come down to what Doki Doki Panic said. Looking at Doki Doki’s manual seems like this is indeed just a weird mistake they did twice. Says Catherine (or Kyasarin, rather), which is Birdo’s Japanese name. Daucho, from the word Dachou which means ostrich. So Ostro I guess. Okay, but consider this:The bird: Is a bird. Catherine: Is not a bird. Shoots ostrich eggs. -- source link
