bauzeitgeist: The remarkable Gare de Bessengué, Douala’s main passenger railway station
bauzeitgeist:The remarkable Gare de Bessengué, Douala’s main passenger railway station, built in 1978. I was only unlucky that I missed the morning train to the capital, Yaoundé, so the station was locked, couldn’t see the inside. But I just love the rainbow-colored underside of the curved roof panels, which continue to the open-air interior. That decorative gesture recalls such a cultural moment in popular public design. As mentioned in the previous post, I’m not quite sure just what to compare it to; the only precedent within my personal experience was the passenger terminal Nsimalen International airport (posted last week), with a near-identical sloping roof with open-air louvers. Entirely probable that it was the same architect, but I have no information.Photo February 2019 Bauzeitgeist. -- source link
