In the winter of 2015, these four shepherds belonging to a Nativity set were found in a storage closet in Glencairn’s basement, together with other objects that once belonged to the Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn family. The figures were hand carved in wood by Hanna Fischer-Binder (d. 1985) of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. In 1954 Raymond Pitcairn commissioned a single scene of the birth of Christ for President and Mrs. Eisenhower, and in 1957 two more scenes were added. The human figures were all made and dressed by Hanna Fischer-Binder. The three-part Nativity was displayed annually in the East Room of the White House, beside the Christmas tree. This holiday season Glencairn Museum is featuring two Christmas exhibitions: “World Nativities” and “Christmas Traditions in Many Lands.” And don’t miss our popular “Christmas in the Castle” tour (reservations strongly recommended as tour space is limited). Daily 12-4:30 pm through Sunday, January 10. http://ow.ly/Ulflm -- source link
