I’ve been rereading The Hunger Games books recently and I was wondering what the Roanoke Society would look like in that universe. I think it would work best in the context of Catching Fire, with the victors being forced back into the Games. Some Society members would be the returning victors, some would be mentors and other agents would be working behind the scenes in the already established rebel Society. This is also a little Thank You gift for our founders, @thatdamnokie and @circlesofbone. Thank you for creating this wonderful community and always being open for a chat. Thanks for being a great friends and a couple of my favorite people. (This also counts as a Happy Holidays gift too.)Gods, I hope you like it. Morgan never expected to survive the Hunger Games. She knew it was always a threat hanging over her head. Hanging over the head of every kid she knows. The things she had to do to survive will haunt her for the rest of her life. But she’s safe. Or she was supposed to be, only now she’s being forced back into the killing arena. This time her opponents will be other victors. Others who have killed their way out of the Games just like her. She’s surviving on pure adrenaline and panic when the girl from District 11 slams her into the ground, wrestling the knives away from her. “Roanoke.” Clementine hisses and it takes a moment for the word to penetrate the fog of terror clouding Morgan’s brain. When her mentor, John, had come out of his drunken stupor long enough to give her actual advice he’d mentioned Roanoke. He’d said that something was brewing, that the unrest and discontent was growing stronger throughout all the districts now. She’s seen it herself when she’d been on her victory tour earlier in the year. This Quarter Quell was going to be different, was already different with the returning tributes, but different in a way the Capitol didn’t expect.“If someone comes to you and says ‘Roanoke’ you shut up and listen, girl.” He’d said.Trusting that he wouldn’t want to her death outright, Morgan stopped trying to get away.Clementine sighed and rolled them to the side. “Keep fighting, idiot! It needs to look real.”Morgan gritted her teeth and sent a sharp elbow back into Clementine’s middle. The rush of air and grunt told her she’d hit her target. They wrestled for a moment longer before springing apart, both of them grabbing one of Morgan’s knives.“Truce?” Clementine offered. They stared at each other for another second. They were victors for a reason and Morgan wouldn’t put it past the other girl to use this as a trick. But John’s words came back to her. It was one of the few times she’d seen him so serious. “Truce.” She said, lowering her knife.“Good. We’ve got work to do.” -- source link
