fehyesmangareviews:Hoshikui by Sakata YasukoSakata Yasuko is a member of The Post Year 24 Group whose ability to write manga as if she were writing novels, whether they’re for children or adults, has gained her a dedicated cult following.Hoshikui is a collection of predominantly child-friendly, magical realist short stories from the late 70s and early 80s. It’s refreshing to read something both genuinely well written and appropriate for children, and Hoshikui (with the exception of one story that revolves around hallucinogenic mushrooms) delivers handsomely. One of Sakata’s greatest charms is that her writing never contains any cheap, stylish jokes and frills. Her writing is that of a true novelist, rather than an entertainer. Not to say that I don’t love cheap entertainment or that I look down on it–I don’t know where I’d be without it–but it’s really refreshing to read something so timeless. My favorite story included is entitled Hoshizukiyo (Starry Night), which I am in the process of translating. -- source link
