❥Old school has a dark factor to it. It isn’t lovable or adorable; it’s a little bit creepy, a little bit off. There may be a little too much lace, or the hair may be a bit wild, or the shoes might make you go ‘what?’ But in old school photos, those girls are generally giving the camera the facial equivalent of the finger. 'Creepy doll’ would be a good description for it; 'do not touch’ would be another. ❥Mana of Malice Mizer and Moi Dix Mois, and creator of the Gothic Lolita clothing line Moi-même-Moitié is the best at the “facial equivalent of the finger”. [photo below] ❥Hair is generally natural, or natural colored. If it’s a wig, usually it’s in the natural color scale and is styled in ringlets or a Hime haircut. Popular hairstyles vary but bangs are almost always in evidence. Make-up is natural or neutral; black lipstick is sometimes worn with Gothic outfits. Some sort of hair accessory is a must. Maxi-pad headdresses are rather notorious, but also full floppy bonnets, mini top hats, and some bows are common. ❥Skirts can be a-line or cupcake, but usually are not super-poofy. Anywhere between short and full length has been seen, but generally just above the knee to just below is the norm. Socks are anywhere between below the knee and down to the ankle, often with lace tops. ❥The color palette generally stays away from bright colors, with the exception of cherry red in a couple of cases. Black, white, sax, gray, wine, forest green, light pink, and navy blue are favorites. Most prints are either religious or floral. Lace, when used, tends to be liberally applied. Princess sleeves, circle sleeves, full shirring, false collars, and corseting were especially popular. ❥Shoes are rarely flat and are more often platforms or large heels. Bubble and square toes are often seen, along with ballet lacing up the leg. Patent leathers are also part of the style. ❥Rather than boleros, capelets are worn. Jewelry is kept to a minimum, often with only a single necklace. [all credit] main photoinformation -- source link
