honorthegods:Mosaic of the Doves Composed entirely of marble cubes, 2nd century CE, based on an original mosaic by Sosus of Pergamon. This mosaic was discovered in 1737 at the Villa Adriani, Tivoli, Italy. Collection of the Capitoline Museum, Rome. Image source: Jastrow (2006) via Wikimedia Commons (X). License: Public Domain. This is a copy of a famous mosaic by Sosus of Pergamon (c. 150-100 BC). We know of only two works credited to him: Doves Drinking from a Bowl and The Unswept Floor. Sosus was much admired in antiquity (Pliny the Elder mentioned him) and both mosaics were copied numerous times in the ancient world. -- source link
