I love the relationship between Bobby and Kahn Jr. in “King of the Hill,” a show that’s way more feminist than you’d expect from its subject matter, a traditional blue collar family in Texas. While the father Hank tries to be a typical patriarch, he routinely gets shown up and often taught a lesson by his wife Peggy, a very strong character who gets explicitly feminist in multiple episodes.Back to Bobbie and Kahn Jr. or “Connie”. They are very sweet and the show demonstrates Bobby occasionally being sexist but learning over time. One of my favorite scenes in the show is from the episode where Kahn Jr. gets her first period. She tells him that her mother doesn’t want them hanging around together now that she’s reached puberty, because now “boys will only be after one thing.” To which Bobby replies, “Did she say what that thing is? Because I’m SO confused!”Then they have this adorable exchange:BOBBY: So now you’re a woman.CONNIE: Technically, I think I’m only a woman four days a month.BOBBY: Four days? Well, that’s for most people. But you’re super-organized. I bet you can get through it in two days.CONNIE: I don’t think that’s how it works.Earlier in the episode Kahn Jr. was understandably embarrassed and shy and didn’t tell Bobby about her period, but the show demonstrates communication and good dialogue. By the end of the episode, they’re on the same team. -- source link
