Aristide Maillol inspecting “La Montagne” in Jean Van Dongen’s atelier, 1936. Photograph by Brassaï.While Brassaï and Maillol were inspecting the sculpture they noticed that the weight of the material had caused ‘La Montagne’s’ left shoulder to begin to slip. Probably the iron armature had given way. Van Dongen fetched some planks to shore up the weakened shoulder, while the sculptor strengthened it with freshly mixed plaster. -- source link
