Blade Lenght: 43 cmPattah, a type of straight sword from Hindustan, usually with European blades, introduced by the Maratha monks. Its use was later spread throughout the rest of India, as one may observe from miniatures of the time, where Maharajahs are drawn bearing them. They were used first on foot and later on horseback. This particular piece is shorter than usual, and comes from the south of Tanjore India. The hilt, gauntlet shaped, represents a stylized tiger’s head, and is decorated with geometric motifs, characteristic from this region. The thin double-edged blade is European.Source & Copyright: Caravana Collection How very cool. (Though I can’t help being reminded of the Witchblade in its gauntlet phase.) -- source link
