theamazingcat:ohfairmaidenofyork:I remember seeing an interview with Max and he addressed the division in how people perceive Edward, saying some think he spent his entire life either fighting, drinking, eating and whoring, while other’s admit he was a complex, very vibrant man, filled with passions for sports, arts, education, love.. This was not the first time I heard a cast member summarizing their character (and the injust, negative rumours surrounding them) amazingly well. Since pretty much all the actors resembled their character both in aesthetics and behavior, it’s very sad to realize how great this show could’ve been had the script embraced the complexity of the characters instead of turning them into stereotypes. Edward IV was actually a really go diplomat, he chose to end the 100 years war instead of continuing to fight it. (Something his Father would have hated) and they could have played up this aspect of his Kingship, he was determined to bring peace back to England. Even Edward III couldn’t conquer France, I mean it was totally smart move to conclude peace and even make money on that. He brought annual income to the crown from this “war” without his soldiers having to spill any blood.and Max said he went on to a bookshop that specializes on history books and asked the consultants to help him with books on Edward. He actually prepared for his role reading non-fiction. This show can be summarized as “we could have had it all”! -- source link
