bag-of-dirt:Australian Army infantrymen of the 9th Division guard Italian soldiers, already taken as POWs in 1940, and some of the first German POWs to be captured during the Siege of Tobruk following the first failed Axis assault on the Libyan port city. The Siege of Tobruk, part of the larger Western Desert Campaign, lasted 241 days in 1941 after Axis forces bombarded the thinly defended city as the Allies scrambled to pour in reinforcements during three large operations.
