madamelamarquys:Today in history - The death of Cecily of YorkOn 24 August 1507 Cecily Plantagenet died at the age of 38. Cecily was the third child of Edward IV and his wife Elizabeth Woodville. Born during the War of roses her life was troubled from the beggining and it later became harder when her parents’ marriage was declared null, and she and her sisters bastards. Her first marriage with Ralph Scrope of Upsall was annuled when her brother in law, Henry Tudor became King of England. Later she was married to John Welles, 1st Viscount Welles, the son of Lionel Welles, 6th Lord Welles and Margaret Beauchamp of Bletso. Her new husband was a maternal half-brother of Lady Margaret Beaufort, and thus an uncle of the half-blood of Henry VII, and a royal favourite by both politics and blood. He and Cecily had two daughters who died young. After her husband’s death she was in great grief but got remarried to Thomas Kyme with whom she must have had two children. Cecily was burried in Quarr Abbey, Isle of Wight. -- source link
