nythroughthelens:New York City - Winter - Central Park’s Most Beautiful Views—-One of the best places in New York City to revel in winter’s finest landscapes is, without a doubt, Central Park. A few winters ago, New York City was buried in mounds of snow multiple times during the winter season. During one of the blizzards that hit the city, I bundled up and climbed through Central Park with my camera in tow to try capture the magic. At a recent presentation I gave at Apple (in Grand Central here in New York City), someone asked me why I chose to edit my Central Park snow photos in the style I chose to edit them. Without hesitating I explained that I had grown up in Queens and that I always day-dreamed of winter wonderlands when I was younger but I never quite found the winter wonderlands of my daydreams in Queens. Central Park’s landscapes embody the wistful hot-cocoa-in-hand-wrapped-in-a-comfy-blanket winter dreams I lost myself in all those years. There is something undeniably magical that occurs as the snow falls, swirling and twirling in the air until it hits the ground heavy with the weight of a thousand promises:exultations and dreams held close to the earth in the stillness between wintry pauseslike a snowglobe resting between giddy shakes of joy.Gallery Key (corresponds to the order of photos in the photo-set):1. You can actually climb the towers and I was able to climb them during the same blizzard that this photograph was taken in (but I will save those photos for another set!). This may have been the only time I have been the only person standing on the bridge. The buildings in the distance line Central Park West.
