Sinabung eruptingSinabung Volcano in Indonesia has been erupting almost continuously for more than half a decade. This incredible shot shows an eruption from 2013.This is a pyroclastic eruption. Highly viscous magma is rising up under the volcano. Gases dissolved in that magma start to form bubbles as it approaches the low pressures at the surface. Eventually, the pressure in those bubbles becomes so great that they begin exploding, blasting the shards of lava surrounding the bubbles upwards into the air.The vertical column of ash you see above the volcano is in the range where the ash is being thrust upwards by the force of the explosion. Eventually the cloud starts to spread outwards once this force is exhausted. You can also see small amounts of ash raining down out of the edges of the cloud and a small pyroclastic flow on the side of the volcano.-JBBImage credit:https://mobile.twitter.com/anthonywx/status/401257788648603648Press report:http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/mt-sinabung-eruption-causes-mass-evacuation-widespread-crop-damage -- source link
