theronweasleygeneration:Remus was aiming another curse at Dolohov when he saw it, a glint of golden hair in the chaos of the great hall. On instinct he threw another curse at the death eater and ran past him, straight to her and her dark, fierce eyes. Without hesitation, he grabbed her hand and drug her into the hallway.“I told you to stay!” he hissed, struggling to keep back tears. “You were to stay in that room so that…so-”Teddy, he thought and his grip on her loosened as the room swung sideways and he leaned against the wall to keep from falling.“I couldn’t leave you,” she whispered fiercely. It had been stupid to leave the safety of the room of requirement, but she couldn’t stand to let him fight without her. She heard a loud crash from above and Remus grabbed her, pulling her out of the way as part of the ceiling caved in.“You should have stayed,” he whispered, pulling away from her.“But I didn’t,” she said, resolutely, because she had made her choice. She stepped towards him, letting the urgency fill her voice as she heard another crash on the other side of the hall, followed by a scream. “Remus, promise me something,” she whispered, her eyes filling up with tears. “Promise me that we’ll survive, that Teddy won’t grow up alone.”Remus knew that his time was short. He looked past his wife, into the deserted, crumbling hallway where he had once caused trouble with his friends, with James and with Sirius who had died for their cause. He was the last Maurader and now he had a son, and he felt James close to him, pressing him to live. Don’t let Teddy be like Harry, James whispered. Live to raise your son. “I promise,” he muttered to his wife and to his best friend. It was a promise that he couldn’t keep, but he would try. Tonks reached her hand out to him, looking at him with wide, fearful eyes and he knew that she was thinking of Teddy. He closed his eyes, wanting to say a thousand things, about how he had been right all along that they were bad for each other, that he was too much trouble, that it would be a miracle if they both went home to Teddy at the end of the night. But he took her hand and together they would end this, together they would fight to the death for their son. -- source link
