The series follows the crew of the starship USS Enterprise as they explore space in the 23rd century. The original cast included William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, DeForest Kelley as doctor Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy, James Doohan as Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott, Nichelle Nichols as Nyota Uhura, George Takei as Hikaru Sulu and Walter Koenig as Pavel Chekov. Now known as Star Trek: The Original Series, it finished in June 1969 after three seasons. There have been many more series and films within the Star Trek universe, making it one of the biggest media franchises in the world.“Space: the final frontier.
