hmsindecision:justfeministhings:hmsindecision:justfeministhings:hmsindecision:justfeministhings:hmsindecision:This is from The Guardian. If anyone wonders why I don’t trust lesbians written by straight men, it’s this right here.i dont get it. do lesbians not like attractive women? We feel uncomfortable with women being presented as sexual objects instead of as people. Do you get that?>Warlord who controlled massive armies>Fought multiple sexist men and other characters>Took charge of herself and her own sexuality>Killed entire Greek pantheon (minus 2)>Saved tons of people with medicinal knowledge>Beat the shit out of men and women alike>Came back from the dead 3 times>Made peace with multiple warring factions>That whole episode where the women in the beauty pageant realized they didn’t want to be a part of it, took control of their own lives, an ANTI SEXIST MESSAGE>WARLORD SO REVERED THAT ARES HIMSELF RESPECTS HER“SHE’S PRESENTED AS A SEXUAL OBJECT!!!!1!”And you’re presenting yourself as an idiot objectI never said I had a problem with Xena. I had a problem with the paragraph that I posted. Why are you starting an argument that wasn’t at hand? “Shiny-tit shield” and assuming women respond to mindless objectification was my problem…The author was just stated that both straight men and gay women can like attractive women. That’s about itNo, that implied dressing a woman in over sexualized clothing would get the same reaction from straight men and from gay women. If you aren’t a lesbian please don’t speak for us, thanks. Many of us are uncomfortable with the way women are presented for the male gaze, as women ourselves.Yeah honestly it’s kind of creepy that the writer is so pleased with himself about a lesbian character being appealing to straight men? Like, that seems predatory to me? Not if it happens on accident (cause people can’t help who they find attractive) but he’s basically making it sound like that was his intention. -- source link
