“Happy Meal”Acrylic and acrylic gouache on BFK Rives8″ x 10″Here’s my piece for Franchise 3, a group show curated by Scott Listfield. The show is currently online at Gallery 1988! Each artist was asked to create a piece inspired by the commercial spaces and old haunts that shaped us.In my piece, my intrepid explorer encounters a childhood relic: a Happy Meal toy of Lowly Worm from “The Busy World of Richard Scarry.” I actually owned this toy as a kid, though I ended up getting one from eBay for reference (but mostly so I could have one to display on my desk) because my original one is long gone. Really enjoyed working on this painting; I’m glad I could continue my motif of my ever-shrinking explorer with some fruit and plant life and still stay on theme with a nod to McDonald’s, which was a big part of my childhood. Thanks to Scott Listfield for the invitation to participate in the show!
