feministblackboard:In this picture you can see a naked woman meditating. It is a sculpture, presumably out of a clay or stone material. The figure has her bare breasts puffed outwards, her legs crossed, her hair in pig tails, her arms outstretched and her arms extended. Her hands are being held in a meditation like form. Around her legs, body cavity, forehead and right elbow, the substance is cracked. She is cracked. From that, springs a yellow-white light. Below her left bosom springs forth more light than the other cracks. There is much balance in this work as she has bilateral symmetry. There is also a great presence of line as it comes from her musculature, fractures and the bridge photographed behind her. This is one of the most fantastic, creative, moving sculptures I have seen in a very long time. This piece, developed by Paige Bradley serves a lot more than to show a woman bleeding light. It sheds light onto one’s true self. From the first moment of birth, we have our container built for us. Our body, our shell, our husk already fits certain things. Our predispositions, race, gender, sexuality, health and even class. Are we more defined by our husk or by the light that tries to crack its way to the surface? “Would we recognize ourselves if we could expand beyond our bodies?” -- source link
