(The beginning of my thesis editing process. I had originally thought when I shot these images I wanted them to be all uniform in the sense that the backgrounds would be stark white. However, after messing around with this tonight I’m not sure! I like the direction they are going in.)My thesis project is based on the general principal that representation of different types of women in the media is necessary for younger girls in order for them to grow up and have a positive self image. The continued pushing of the “white, blond, photo shopped, tall, skinny, etc” stereotype is still damaging for women of all ages. In this project, I am letting each person I photograph pick what greek goddess they would like to portray, and then creating a modern adaptation of that goddess. Goddess in their time were revered, fearless, and worshipped. To this day they are still thought of as “on a pedestal.” I want my models to feel this way, as well as all that view this project. It is important to realize that your body is your temple, and it is perfect the way it is. In the coming weeks I will be photographing at least 6 more women, to create a more inclusive body of work that represents more races and body types. -- source link
