fandomsandfeminism:durkin62:fandomsandfeminism:So…your complaint is that if a person with a uterus gets pregnant, they have the bodily autonomy to choose whether or not they want to bring that pregnancy to term, however the person who impregnated them can be held financially responsible if a child results from that pregnancy. It’s nice to know that you’re comparing a person’s BODILY AUTONOMY to, ya know, your paycheck. That’s more than a little flawed. But go on, what exactly is your solution to this? I’m curious. Make women decide whether they value their body autonomy more or less than making the father financially responsible. Put their decision on their I.D.Your uterus, so your decision? Ok fine, your decision is your responsibility. You can’t demand you alone get to make the call but other must share in the burden you create. You wan’t a dad to be obligated to take care of a child? Ok, then having the child must be in part his decision as well and you can’t abort it without his consent. Don’t want a kid? You have the option. Don’t want to have to pay for a kid alone? You have the option. And this way men have at least some agency in only fucking women who’s ideas on pregnancy coincide with their own. Now that we got that out of the way. How the fuck do you think people get a paycheck? Shit don’t just fall from the sky. Women have to be forced to carry a fetus for 9 months isn’t ok with you but forcing men to work OT for 18 years is? The fuck kind of sense does that make? You say your paycheck like its some kind of luxury you can just give up at will. I fucking envy you because you’ve clearly never had any real financial issues before. I’m not saying that financial issues don’t matter at all. I’m saying that it is INHERENTLY FLAWED to compare MONEY to a person’s BODY. Bodily autonomy has no cash value. It can not be bought and sold. It is a fundamentally different question. Also, again with the gendered language here. Not everyone with a uterus is a woman. Not everyone with a dick is a man. Let’s keep that in mind. The idea that a pregnant person would need SOMEONE ELSES consent before making a decision that affects THEIR BODY is deeply troubling. That sounds like a recipe for abusive relationship dynamics right there. No one else gets control over your body but you. IF a child is created from a pregnancy, then BOTH parents are financially responsible. But that doesn’t give anyone the right to dictate intensely intimate bodily choices to anyone else. “Bodily autonomy has no cash value." Really? Because I’m pretty sure temporary submission of autonomy is the fundamental basis of wage earning. If a woman is made against her will to bring a fetus to term, that is slavery. Do you agree? If you garnish someones wages, you are compelling them by force to do work for no pay. If this is done for a reason that is not a crime, this is also slavery. How do you deny this? -- source link
