The Daily Knicker’s ‘Top 5 of 2015′Karolina Laskowska ‘Elzbieta&rs
The Daily Knicker’s ‘Top 5 of 2015′Karolina Laskowska ‘Elzbieta’ Playsuit. Not only was this one of the most original and deftly executed bodywear styles of the year, it was the most liked piece on The Daily Knicker social media accounts. A playsuit that is a sheer mesh thong at front with harness-like straps going up between the breasts and into a choker neck, the straps at the back criss-cross perfectly into a pentagram shape on the lower back . It can be a bit of challenge to put on (but comes with instructions!), but once it is, it’s incredible. ‘Elzbieta’ is damn hot. Is comfortable. Is original. Is luxury. And is well-priced for a high-quality indie label. The construction is superb. Each individual KL garment handmade by Karolina herself with impeccable craftsmanship. Bones Lingerie Bra and Brief. This pink metallic set came in late in the year and took out a Top 5 spot straight away due to two personally important traits. Firstly, it is extremely comfortable, so much so, I forget I’m wearing it. It’s wirefree, yet offers more support than a triangle, bandeau or bralette style- it has seamed cup shape which seems responsible for this. The brief remains snugly in place, doesn’t move, ride up or fall down and sits flat beneath clothes. Secondly, the metallic pink fabric is equal parts pretty and quirky, a lot softer and stretchier than it looks for such shimmer and shine. It’s quite unique and done well. I feel like an everyday ‘Barbarella’ when I wear this set. Feeling cool and fantastical whilst in something completely functional is rare. The price point is also great. SJ Lingerie ‘Bang Bang’ Bodysuit. This underwear/outerwear garment is beautiful. The top half is raw silk with mesh lining and the bottom, brief-style half is a geometric lace. It fits perfectly and is adjustable. It offers zero breast support obviously, due to the open, plunging neckline, but this aspect was very on-trend this year from a fashion perspective, as outerwear designers harked back to the less structured 70′s (goodbye boning and cinching and hello draping and fluidity, a la Halston and Biba). So it was lovely and exciting to see a lingerie label pay attention to what’s happening in the apparel industry as a whole, rather than just make another moulded cup t-shirt bra or floral bralette. This bodysuit looks divine with a long, split wrap skirt (as styled in this Daily Knicker story for Vulkan Magazine ) or with high-waisted jeans or a leather pencil skirt. To surmise: it looks good on it’s own with nothing, AS clothes or UNDER clothes. A chic and versatile garment, well worth the purchase. Agent Provocateur Soiree Corset and Brief. An exercise in luxury, the sheer beauty and reliable quality of this pink lace style puts it in my annual Top 5. It’s visually stunning. Feminine, sexy, classic, both powerful and coquettish, it’s a set for a modern-day Marie Antoinette. I did spend an afternoon quaffing champagne in this on my couch, purely inspired by the garments themselves, such is the feels of this corset and brief. And what do we love beautiful lingerie for if not the magical and transformative effects of it such as that? The quality is typical ‘AP Soiree’-superb, but yes, you do pay for it, with the set retailing for around $2000. I don’t care- it’s marvellous. Probably just for the rich or seriously addicted and devoted among us, but gosh, it’s gorgeous and putting it on was one of my most ‘Wow!’ lingerie moments of 2015.Victoria’s Secret ‘Embellished Lace Balconet Bra, V-string and Suspender’. Biggest surprise and dark horse? This 3-piece set by lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret. The mid-range, mall company that monopolises the US market released this style early in the year. Not only have I enjoyed wearing and reviewing it, but it made for a stunning editorial piece in this Daily Knicker shoot, photographing beautifully. If you’ve been reading my blog for the past few years you might remember I noted about 2 years ago I was finding myself liking the odd piece at VS with increasing frequency and left me pondering what was going on with their design teams. This style was, I think, the most obvious turning point, and signalled the shift from ‘I could possibly sift through mountains of neon cheap lace racerbacks and maybe find something workable there’ to ‘I have a shopping cart on VS.com with 20 items and I REALLY want them ALL.’ The fit of all 3 pieces is great, I love how it makes my body look and my mood/feel (sparkles!!), due to features such as the metallic foiled lace, crystal embellishment and boned straps on the suspender belt. What were your thoughts on lingerie in 2015? And how do you feel about my picks? What is your favorite? And what would you like to see more of in 2016, whether as a consumer or TDK reader? I always appreciate your thoughts. Thank you so much for your support over the past year and I look forward to sharing my lingerie-love with you in 2016! -- source link
