Statuette of a HarpistThe statuette represents a seated man wearing a short black wig and a long white kilt. He is sitting in a very special way in order to be able to hold the harp, which is bigger and taller than he is. He is shown playing on the black strings of the harp, the top of which is decorated with ornamental motifs colored red and blue; the base is decorated with two udjat eyes of Horus for protection. The harp, the body of the man and the base of the statuette are all painted yellow. This statuette is considered to be one of the most beautiful statuettes of musicians still in existence.Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 1991-1802 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
