I was in the mood for Jim Henson’s The Storyteller and then I started thinking about MatsuMasa Hans my Hedgehog. For those who are not familiar: I put a summary of the episode from the Storyteller below the cut. I was actually gonna post this with a few other redraws I did for this, but redraw-number-three is a /challenge/ and I’m happy with this one. I guess I’ll post them together at some point thoIt’s the story of Hans, who - as a result of his mum’s poorly worded wish - was born resembling a hedgehog. Adult Hans helps a lost king, and as a reward he wants whatever greets the king first upon his return home. To the king’s dismay, this turns out to be his daughter..The king keeps his word, and so does the girl: when Hans comes to collect her, she marries him. That night, she sees Hans shedding his hedgehog skin, and going outside a handsome man. The princess learns that his quills are soft as down.This scene recurs the next night, but now Hans finds her asleep on the quills when he returns early in the morning. When she wakes, he asks if she prefers the man or the beast. She swears that to her they are the same. Hans says he will become human for good if she stays quiet about his curse for another night.The princess starts doubting this solution when she hears of a different one: to burn the hedgehog skin when is has been shed. After Hans leaves that night, she throws his quills into the fire. At once she hears a scream outside: Hans has returned to his beast form and seems to be in horrible pain.Outraged and hurt, Hans leaves the castle immediately, never to return. The heartbroken princess is resolved to make it up to him. She buys a pair of iron shoes and sets out to find her husband. She succeeds, but not before she wears out three pairs of iron shoes and her hair has turned snow white.Hans has not forgiven her, but she will not give up. She holds him tight and promises to love him and to never again let him go, as he furiously snarls and squirms. in fits and starts his skin peels and he transforms into the human body he was only able to wear at night before.They go back to the castle together and get married a second time, presumably to live happily ever after. -- source link
