abeesirrifuetabledomain:Ok, there is a major issue with these posts and so many more like them. OCD is an incapacitating disorder that really causes sufferers to struggle. Treating an illness like this is not okay. You don’t lose a hair while you brush it and say, “Oh, my Cancer is bad today”. Why do that with OCD? It is made up of two parts obsessive and compulsive. Sufferers struggle with obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions. They are not just perfectionists. Stop treating this illness as though it’s a joke. Please.Exactly. My OCD led to a mental breakdown that lasted for over two years. I only sought help when my brain suggested I could escape the thoughts by killing myself and I realized I didn’t want to die. I could have died because of this disorder. OCD isn’t about being “organized.” If you like things neat and orderly, you’re a neat and orderly person. OCD is about your brain looping intrusive thoughts over and over again and forcing you to perform compulsive actions to get rid of the thoughts repeatedly. There’s also a form called Pure Obsessional OCD, in which the thoughts loop endlessly and the compulsions manifest as mental “checking” to see if there’s evidence for the thoughts or not. (I have the latter sort.)OCD is a serious anxiety disorder, not just the desire to “be organized.” In fact, a lot of us end up being fairly messy people or hoarding things because our executive function is off due to OCD, so the stereotype is entirely unwarranted in the first place. As a survivor, I urge you to read the Wikipedia articles on OCD and Pure O to get a good grounding on how OCD works and what you can do to support the people in your life who have it, and if you have any questions about OCD, ask me! I’ll do my best to help you out! -- source link
