Here I am comparing these modern depictions of Tang Dynasty women with actual Tang Dynasty women figurines. Although a lot of the colors have been peeled off after 12 centuries, you can still see the use of bright and sharp colors on the women’s gowns. Tang’s womens fashion is, arguably, the least conservative and most open throughout ancient Chinese history. From some of the figurines you can see the women were allowed to wear low cut dresses exposing their chests. Tang women hairstyle is also worth discussing, but I guess I’ll leave it for another post.
