Channing Hargrove shares with BGKI about her style in the city… What inspires you
Channing Hargrove shares with BGKI about her style in the city… What inspires you to blog?Orginally, I needed something productive to do with my time because I didn’t have a ‘real’ job, but now I look at the blog as a way to hone my voice as a writer, cultivate my style, and create my dream job! Who knew a blog could be so many things, right? How would you define your personal style?I’m definitely a moody dresser, but I would say my style is super girly yet with masculine touches and statement accessories.Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?I like to play by my own rules. I now know the value of quality over quantity but I like to keep my look current by adding a trend or two.Items to get, what are you searching for right now? Classic trench coatChocolate riding bootsHigh waisted jeans that work on my petite frame. Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?Black! I know it’s supposed to make you look thin and blah, blah, blah but to me it’s just so boring! I love color. When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?A gorgeous brown woman 'killing’ it in her respective field, humble, eager to help others, with glossy nails, in bad stilettos looking fab! As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?I was always into clothes, especially accessories. I have a picture of me still in diapers trying to wear my mother’s high heels, LOL. As I’ve gotten older though, I’m not so much a slave to the trends so I won’t look back and cringe at pictures. So I guess you can say a bit of both. Do you participate in your local fashion scene?Um, no. If you knew what my local fashion scene consisted of, you would understand. Thank God for my blogger boos who give me my fashion fix online. How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices? The great thing about being a freelance writer is not having to follow a dress code, so I could be as dressed up–or down– as I feel like because I work from home. Occasionally, I travel to New York for events or meetings and that’s a nice time to be a little fancier than usual. What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?People not dressing for their body type. Ill fitting clothing or not wearing the proper undergarments are never a good look. Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing? No, I wish I could draw or sew, though! You wouldn’t be able to tell me anything! I have made jewelry before, I enjoy doing that. Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?I’m a J.Crew groupie. Those catalogs are styled to perfection. Rachel Roy has a great aesthetic that I love. I wish I could afford all of the Burberry Proscum S/S 2012 collection. Oh, and every girl needs Chanel, wouldn’t you say?Who are your style icons?New York City’s Original 'IT’ girl Holly Golightly (played by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s), Carrie Bradshaw, and Rachel Bilson. I love how June Ambrose was able to create a signature look all her own. Your five must-haves as a girl: Glossy nailsa smilenude pumpsa functional yet classic baga statement necklace. You can stay in touch with this BGKI on her Blog, Twitter, or Tumblr -- source link
