Under the pen of Yasuko Kobayashi, these familiar characters live different lives from their former counterparts but are still recognisable as the beloved characters of the anime, manga and musicals. There are several deviations and plot turns in this series. For fans of the Sailor Moon series, this is a real treat.SeaofSerenity.Net is proud to release new DVD rip translations of this series. Look forward to a new release every week!Like & Reblog for more releases!Boost for people who haven’t watched the series before. Miss Dream uses a more conversational tone in her translations, which can make them easier to read, but they’re also much much more prone to blatant inaccuracies and misrepresentations, and Miss Dream fudges things a bit overmuch sometimes (in my opinion). These subs have as good or better video quality, with more literal translations. They’re not quite as colloquial, which might make the tone slightly stilted (especially if you’re not used to listening to or reading a lot of translated Japanese), but they are true to what the characters are actually saying. This is especially important if you want to be doing detail specific comparisons between adaptations or writing in-depth meta based on small details. If that kind of close reading is more your style, I recommend these subs as you’re less likely to be mislead.I feel that I agree on you on the style here sometimes being too stiff. There are several reasons why this is happening. Mainly the way I speak English in real life is a little stiff already because I’m just that kind of person and it comes through in translation sometimes, probably more than it should. I feel I am also strongly influenced by the language cues which as someone who is mainly surrounded by Asian speakers of English, is often rather clunky, isn’t it?There are also issues of timing and dithering between if I’m adjusting character dialogue to how I personally see the characters or if I’m being neutral. So, we tend to be a bit stricter in translation, leaning towards accuracy over personality.I do hope though its not so stiff that it sucks the life out of the vibrant Japanese script. If this is happening to a severe degree, please let us know. Hopefully at some point I will have the time to clean up the translation in here, and I certainly want to in the musical translation, in order to make it more personable. Thank you for your feedback and boosting!I haven’t watched all your PGSM stuff yet, but so far I haven’t a problem with it being too stiff. I also think it’s good to have at least one sub out there erring on the side of accuracy, because when it comes to “Accurate vs. Natural” there’s always going to be a trade off in translating any language. Which is more important and what qualifies as a good balance is somewhat subjective, and depends on the needs of both the viewer and the goals of the translator. Especially in a video/audio work like PGSM, I personally prefer translators to err on the side of accuracy and rely on the performances and music for tone and personality. Especially because we already have one sub out there that chose (as their preference and that’s fine) to err on the side of personality, often clearly overriding accuracy in that decision, I think it’s good to have a sub that prioritizes in the other direction when a tough call has to be made. I didn’t mean to imply your subs were unreadable or difficult, though! They are not! And they definitely keep the life in the story! I just wanted to let people know the main difference between these subs and the main other sub out there for this series, and what to expect if they are used to the other. -- source link
