avani008: Anon wanted Sita, Urmila, Ruma and Mandodari for the daemon au! A boar, people say, is an odd choice of companion for a princess; but not at all so, Janaka counters gently, for the daughter of Mother Earth herself. Was it not in such a shape that Vishnu himself rescued her from vile captivity? And was it not in such a form that he wed her? Let Princess Sita honor her mother however she pleases, he urges; and let her win her own honor as she chooses. Ayodhya assumes Urmila’s daemon dozes constantly: but that is only because they only see Nishakanth hanging from her sleeve or shoulder during the day, never alight and alive at night. By day, admittedly, he might not make for much in the way company; but by night–by night, he flies. Mandodari’s daemon shines gold, even before she arrives in gold-roofed Lanka: a talisman of what her future shall be. Whenever she forgets, or falters, Hemu is there to remind her of the promise she’s made herself: to rule wisely and well, to bring prosperity wherever she goes. The Vanara clan is known and named for the monkey daemons it manifests, and its queen is no exception. More often than not, this means only one more betrayal she faces from those she loves: Ruma’s daemon screeches in her silence, scratches its own face as she sleeps, and when he hears of it, Vali punishes her for making a production of her suffering. One day, she knows, she will wake to find her daemon gone: and then, finally, finally, she will be free. -- source link
