Tried to track this image down. Found it at Nifty Homestead, which led to a company -Wildroof - that does all kinds of projects in the UK, including green roofs. They don’t have this picture on their actual website, but they have other similar-looking projects. As fantastic as these look, I hope the pale wood they’re using as framing around the edges is treated somehow. It looks like the place/way that the design is most likely to fail. I don’t mention that to be overly critical, it’s b/c I’d love to have one someday (as unrealistic as that is), so it’s good to think through designs. At a certain point, everything fails. Always overengineer. Pros: looks freaking awesome, provides habitat for wildlife, helps to insulate your home/structure in summer and winter, better disguises your home/structure from the prying eyes of satellites and drones.Cons: really really heavy, like usually-has-to-be-structurally-reinforced-heavy. Also leaks are going to give you a bad time. The substrate used to grow the plants in is not cheap. But seriously how cute are these things!!?!! And that bottom one with the solar panels is just dreamy. -- source link
