peregrinusbarbatus:radiosaturday, I mean, as far as it being poor rhetoric, the other people there don’t really use much rhetoric (as in the discipline of making a persuasively good argument). They simply make their stance clear and don’t budge from that.Oh, god, I know. Every semester of undergrad, these anti-abortion types would set up on campus, and there was no talking to them. It was awful. Their idea of reasonable contraceptive measures were limited to “natural family planning,” which is not terribly effective and completely unfeasible for people who menstruate irregularly. I just dislike that kind of stridency, and the refusal to brook discussion that you mentioned. I know it’s not a huge issue, and is quite ancillary to abortion as a topic, but I get sick of it quickly. (Which is not to say that I wouldn’t be delighted to carry a sign like the guy has in this photo. Quite the opposite, in fact. :-P ) -- source link
