Bust of TutankhamunA view of a bust of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun (wood, gesso, paint) on display during the press preview of the “Tutankhamun And The Golden Age Of The Pharaohs” exhibition at the Discovery Times Square Exposition Center on April 21, 2010 in New York. (April 20, 2010 - Source: Jemal Countess/Getty Images North America) From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, West Thebes. New Kingdom, reign of Tutankhamun, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1332-1323 BC. This wooden bust of Tutankhamun depicts him as a young king. His face is painted a dark reddish brown, the traditional color for male skin. It may have functioned as a mannequin for royal ceremonial garments or served as a sculptor’s model. Armless busts, however, do figure prominently in religious rituals. -- source link
