“In the great hall which will house my medieval collection we shall make doors which will be metal inside and out. They will probably be copper because of its workability for panels. To prevent them from sounding tinny and to avoid denting we have debated between the use of wood, such as teak, which may be less subject to dry rot than other wood, —and we have considered the use of other materials. It occurs to me that you might suggest some material for this purpose which might be expected to last through the centuries, and which would be practical for our purpose.” (October 11, 1932.
