madeleine92posts:Emperor Charles V to his wife Isabella of Portugal after death of their baby son, infante Fernando in 1530:The death of the Infante, our son, we had felt, like it was reason, but Our Lord, who gave him to us, wanted him for himself, and we should reluctantly accept his will and thank him and beg him for what is left. And thus I beg you, Lady, very affectionately to do so and forget and get rid of all the pain and sorrow from yourself, consoling yourself with prudence and spirit that is appropriate for such person… (her high rank)The Empress gave birth to her third child and second son, infante Fernando, on 22th November 1529 during the absence of her husband, who had been forced to go to Italy. Charles was in Bologna when the news about the birth of his son reached him. However, the Emperor did not have a chance to get to know his new baby because the infante had died on 13th July 1530 which contributed to deterioration of Isabella’s delicate health; she got depressed and suffered from dangerous tertian fevers. She had to cope with her sadness and sickness, and take care of her political responsibilities as regent of the Spanish Kingdoms on her own since the reunion of the imperial couple took place three years later.Sources: (x), (x) -- source link
