joliemariella:thefloatingstone:kaikaku-collects:thefloatingstone:Last Pony post for the day, I promise. Because I know most of you guys don’t care about ponies and that’s not why you follow me ;w;This is something I’ve been wondering for a while though. This is my childhood Night Glider and I’m just confused about her symbol colours?Because they’re suppose to look like this:All I can think is they’ve faded with time, but I don’t remember them being purple… but its possible my memory is just really bad. But I’ve also never seen her symbols fade like this on any other ones that people own online?Any collectors out there know if this is fading or is it maybe something else?I would guess it’s fading, but obviously I’m not sure. There are definitely sometimes variations in the colouring of pony symbols, or errors where parts of symbols just didn’t get printed. I’ve never seen a case where things faded in quite the way your Night Glider has, though (purple to blue?). I think it’s hard to say and my guess is still that it’s fading just because fading does some pretty weird things. But it would be cool if it turned out it was a variation. And she looks gorgeous anyway. ^_^ I wish I had Night Glider! It’s so cool you’ve got yours from childhood! Also nothing wrong with sharing G1 posts. :P I also collect ‘em and post them on one of my Tumblrs. Thanks! Night Glider has always been one of my favourites. Although as a child she was always a boy in my herd! Which is also why I think the symbols were always blue? but I’m still not sure. I wish I had a photo to check. If she was a variant that would be amazing! But I’m not expecting it :) I was surprised to find out she’s rather sought after! I’m very happy I have a childhood one. That’s saved me money and trying to track her down X’D I adore space ponies. The fading of color on old vinyl toys like that is pretty common. There’s probably a few reasons as to why the purple faded most of all. It could be that to get that particular shade they used a a slightly different type of paint from the rest, but in turn was more prone to fading with time. The sun and the natural oils from your hands over the course of years spent handling it probably contributed as well. In the future, if you buy more and want to be certain they won’t fade (or will at least do so more slowly) there are special UV cutting sealants you can get. I don’t collect MLPs but I do have some other dolls (both vinyl and resin) that I use Mr Super Clear (matte) UV-Cut on and it makes a difference!Oh thank you for the advice! :D yeah, purple is a weird colour in general, which is why I though it’s most likely just fading since everything else is fine with her. I’ve never heard of sealing a pony :) I would have to read up if anyone has tried that. These days my ponies are kept out of the direct sun :D so if I just try to be a better collector I shouldn’t have to worry about this any more XD just more damage from me being a child. -- source link
