fandomsandfeminism:theorclair:thespectacularspider-girl:epsilon-sexual:harrypotterconfessions:I hate the fact that people think that people count Dumbledore as decent queer representation, and when they say they do, I lose a bit of respect for them. If you want a gay character who’s existence doesn’t revolve around it, watch Brooklyn 99; but as a lesbian, it sickens me how much praise JKR gets for literally doing nothing.*Says gay characters’ stories shouldn’t revolve around being gay**Gets angry when gay characters’ stories don’t revolve around being gay*Pretty much. The thing is, there’s no real place to out him in the story. the only people who knew he was involved with Grindewald romantically or at least sexually were him and Grindenwald; I can’t imagine either being too willing to mention it. (”That dark wizard I defeated? Yeah, he was my boyfriend once.” Not happening.) In the story we don’t see much about Dumbledore’s private life before he dies other than the fact he’s got a brother.Harry and Dumbledore literally have an intimate and detailed conversation about his history with Gellert at “Kings Cross” where Dumbledore CRIES at the mention of Gellert DYING to protect his grave from being plundered by Voldemort. How would that not be the perfect time to have a line about how “love can blind us, but redeem us in the end?” Harry reads a dirty expose by Rita Skeeter that is supposed to delve into the deepest and most personal details of Dumbledore’s past, including his deeply controversial history with Gellert. How is that not the perfect time to have some information about the tantalizing rumors about the less than platonic nature of their friendship? Harry has a long and emotional conversation with Aberforth about Dumbledore and the rocky relationship Aberforth had with Albus and how his relationship with Gellert ended up costing them their sister. How is that not the perfect time to mention how Albus really “never let himself love again after that”? Harry speaks to Elphias Doge at Bill and Fluer’s Wedding about his own past with Dumbledore- how they were friends in school. How is that not the perfect time to have a little mention of how Elphias always carried a flame for the man, but it never did work out? There were MULTIPLE perfectly good places to canonize this. Book 7 spent an absurd amount of time exploring Dumbledore’s backstory. Jesus Christ on Toast. -- source link
