martianhippy:Today I went on a field trip to a couple of beaches. We dug a trench and saw laminations indicating different storms and other events that affected the coastal environment. It was about 5-10 years worth of strata. We also took a pound core sample, but it turned out to be pretty crappy and we were all ready to head home. The beach is undergoing severe erosion though. I wish I could show you pictures of that but that’s too large scale for phone pictures. Done this before on a sedimentary class field trip or two. Really amazing how much structure there is in beach sediments. -- source link
