This picture is one of the easiest ways we can actually see plate tectonics. This stream on the Carrizo Plain in California has been offset by the San Andreas fault, the 1100 kilometer long boundary between the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. The portion of the fault that runs through the Carrizo Plain is unique because the surface expression of the fault is very well defined. It appears easily because it has not been subject to significant erosion due to the arid local environment. -HZM picture from: http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/photos/plate-tectonics-gallery/#/offset-streams-carrizo_1125_600x450.jpg story from: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/nca/kap/ -- source link
