Lystrosaurus, a pig-sized burrowing herbivore with only two teeth that lived during the Permian
Lystrosaurus, a pig-sized burrowing herbivore with only two teeth that lived during the Permian and Triassic. Several species are known, of which a couple are illustrated above. But the craziest thing about Lystrosaurus is that it not only survived the devastating Permian-Triassic extinction event that did in many similar creatures, but it went on to become the most common terrestrial vertebrate during the early Triassic. At times an astonishing 95% of land vertebrates are thought to have been Lystrosaurus. It’s pretty insane. And people are still not quite sure why. -- source link
