aman-acan-andacityplan:The state of Florida is famous for its coastline, but lost in the hustle and bustle of summer beach goers and luxury resorts are the numerous springs, which dot the state’s landscape. Florida is not the only state with geology conducive to creating clear springs and watering holes, but it is the closest place to Mississippi where I can see this unique geological feature with my own eyes. The pictures above are from Ponce de Leon Springs State Park, which is just off of Interstate 10, so its fairly accessible. The water bubbling up to the surface here is crystal clear and possesses a rich turquoise color that is quite beautiful. The caves and openings in the Earth that give rise to Ponce De Leon and other natural springs can get quite massive and there is a small cottage industry in the state of Florida devoted to cave diving and exploration. For this land lover though, the surface of the spring is more than enough to hold my interest. Its definitely an element of Florida’s landscape, which was not on my radar before I came here, but I wish to explore more in the future. -- source link
