While the turban is often labelled as “heathen” and “pointless”, women in burqas get judged for not covering their ankles, their walk and how they talk. As a dedicated hijabi I ask myself, if I am wearing it for myself or the critics, to match their expectations of a “real” hijabi. It is my decision if and how I am wearing my headscarf.
