Monday, May 26th. Doune Castle stood out to us because many of our young lives contained some memory pertaining to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Living in a country with such numerous castles, we gained the advantage of visiting places that had been used for hundreds of films. After we discovered that this the classic was filmed in such a short distance from Glasgow, we agreed that it would make a great addition to the trip. After we first arrived in Stirling, we found the bus stop that would eventually lead us to the two-street town of Doune. We found the short road that would lead us to the castle. After purchasing our tickets, we were each given a headset which included a recorded guide of the castle. This complementary feature truly enhanced the experience, as visitors are not only provided with the castle’s history (along with the lives of the king and queen who lived there), but with an insight as to what scenes in Monty Python and the Holy Grail were filmed within and around the castle. Furthermore, this commentary was voiced by Terry Jones: a man who is specifically recognized for co-directing many of the Monty Python productions. If you are familiar with the film, please feel free to click on the photos above, as I’ve noted (when applicable) which specific scene was filmed in a featured area. -- source link
