This gorgeous lake is called Jökulsárlón (“glacial river lagoon”) and is perhaps the most famous lake in Iceland.Located at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park, the lake first appeared in or around 1934/35 as a result of the glacier receding from the edge of the Atlantic. The lake has continued to grow at varying rates based on the speed of glacier melt and is currently over 1.5km away from the ocean’s edge. Since the 1970s, the size of the lake has increased fourfold and in 2012, it became the deepest lake in Iceland at over 248 metres deep.-JeanImage courtesy of Jen St. Louis (with permission) https://www.flickr.com/photos/jen_stlouis_photography/14509485585/in/pool-mothernaturenetwork/For more amazing images from Jen, find her here http://www.jenstlouisphotography.com/ or on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Jen-St-Louis-Photography-10493324438/timeline/ -- source link
