witchofthewyrd:When to spell: moon phasesSo these are my correspondences for the moon phases, plus my reasoning, which may or may not coincide with other associations.I don’t have specific associations for every phase of the moon - instead, I focus on “waxing” and “waning” associations, along with associations for the New and Full moon. New moon:The moon is hidden from the earth, so this is a good time to do work related to secrecy and “invisibility”. Since the new moon is followed by the moon becoming more visible, this is also a good time to “plant seeds” of a spell that you want to grow in power over time. Spells for: keeping something hidden, privacy, protecting objects from prying eyes.Waxing (crescent, first quarter, gibbous):The moon is becoming more and more illuminated, so this is a good time to focus on growth - such as bringing something new into your life, or improving yourself somehow. It’s also a good time to “grow” or charge spells of any kind.Spells for: motivation or dedication, fertility, making new habits, improving relationships or communication and learning new skills or improving your existing skills. Full moon:The moon is fully (or near fully) illuminated, so this is a good time to reflect and focus on illuminating areas of your life. I view the moon now being full after “growing” as being symbolic of crops, so this is also a good time to “reap rewards”. Since the moon is at its brightest, I view it as “brightening” magic too - so it’s good for anything magic related, as well.Spells for: understanding, prosperity, success, magical powers, cleansing and protecting. Waning (gibbous, third quarter, crescent):The moon is becoming less and less visible. If the “waxing” phases were “growing”, this is “shrinking” - so it’s a good time to “shrink” or push out other areas of your life.Spells for: shrinking other people’s power over you, breaking spells or curses, breaking bad habits, and protection and healing (through “banishing” something that makes you feel unsafe or sick). Spells throughout the moon phases:Aspects of each phase can be incorporated into a month-long spell, for any reason. Take a spell for communication:New moon: begin preparing the spell, incorporate “invisibility” to keep the spell and its effects hidden until it’s cast. Waxing: grow the power of the spell, include communication aspects.Full moon: incorporate understanding to help you understand the different ways the spell will affect you and others, and incorporate magic aspects to help increase the power of the spell.Waning: incorporate shrinking to shrink potential negative effects. The spell’s now ready to cast, and can be cast at any time (or you could keep it till the next full moon for potency.) You could include any combination of the phases (although I would only include phases that follow one another - so if I was going from the new moon to the full moon, I would include the “waxing” aspect) and adjust the timeline accordingly.
