So still charging ahead with my reread and THIS. This right here. This is what pisses me off SO MUCH about the plot point of Nautica having her feelings for Skids erased. Things like this were such an important point in this comic. Grief existing, grief changing. Chromedome is the master of just removing the pain. One little injection. Then, when we witness another death that devastates one person in the relationship, the removal of her feelings is not only something that feels glossed over, it’s also effectively used as a plot device. There were better ways to let Nautica resist Mederi. And for a series with such great writing, this moment right here is a great example of why the choice to just have her forget how much she actually loved Skids was a terrible decision. It made his death final, just like Brainstorm says to Chromedome: “[He] deserves to be remembered. By us, yes, of course. But by you a thousand times more. Your pain will change. It won’t go- of course not, course it won’t- but eventually it’ll turn into something else. Something you can live with. Take it from someone who knows.”It’s even more damning when you consider Brainstorm and Nautica are also good friends. That’ll just never sit right with me from a writing standpoint. -- source link
