At the close of Glencairn’s annual Sacred Arts Festival today, the Venerable Losang Samten led visitors in a dismantling ceremony for the Tibetan sand mandala. Participants were invited to push the sand into the middle of the table to mix the colors together. Losang then led a procession to a pond on the grounds of Glencairn and ritually poured the sand into the water, where it was dispersed. According to Losang, “Water is such an important element in our lives; if you look at the human body, the greatest portion is made up of water. Clean water is something that is so important on earth, and sand is actually created by water action, so when we return it to the water we are completing a circle.” -- source link
