It’s day two of #VegansofIGplantstrong week. It’s my pleasure to introduce @veganbeastmode. Here is his story: “Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought being vegan was an option. That was a lifestyle reserved for hippies, not me. I was 315lbs and only saw a vegetable or fruit if it came with my main course of meat. I was a Man and Men hunted! The truth was, I couldn’t hunt if I wanted to. I was obese and could barely walk to my car without huffing and puffing. I participated in a 10k event. I finished at 1:45 in bad shape, while a few 75 year olds were miles ahead of me. This was embarrassing and a smack in the face. Shortly after, I traveled through Europe. I nearly starved with their meal sizes. Tiny portions that kids in America would laugh at, with soda’s as big as a tiny red bull. At first I thought everyone was crazy, until I realized, I was the crazy one. America’s “bigger” wasn’t better, it was worse! Everyone here was thin and I was the stereotypical “Fat American.” I came home and decided I needed a change. I started Atkins and it was horrible. I did more research and implemented 6 meals a day, tons of veggies, lifting, and running. I dropped 70 lbs but still ate meat. I was handed “Skinny Bastard,” the guy version of “Skinny Bitch.” I laughed at the notion of veganism, but read it anyways. That book changed my life. I became “mostly” vegan and lost another 40 lbs. I never felt better and even completed a Marathon. Eventually I got injured, reverted to dairy, and gained much of the weight back. Stress and a bad diet. I was lazy, unhappy, and 222 Lbs. With inspiration from fellow IGers, I decided to go full vegan and start running. I bought “Thrive” and learned so much about vegan nutrition. Within 3 months, I had lost 32lbs and was able to run over 100 miles a month. This was something I never dreamed of. It was solely the way my body reacted to this clean eating vegan diet. I was running 10k’s daily and two 22k’s a month for the heck of it. I’ve since started cycling and have hopes for a 70.3 in the near future. I’m down 126lbs! If I can do it, so can you.” #VegansofIG http://instagram.com/p/ZlhrRSGiUv/ -- source link
