Spiraling Spiders One of the more intriguing species discovered by science last year are these dancing spiders (known as Cebrennus rechenbergi ) that live in the sandy deserts of Morocco’s Erg Chebbi. When confronted with a threat, they propel themselves towards it in a graceful cartwheeling motion across the dune surface. They can propel uphill and in this mode move twice as fast as their usual gait, useful when fleeing from a predator. Only one other species is known to act like insectile tumbleweed, the golden rolling spider.LozImage credit: Prof. Dr. Ingo Rechenberg/Technical University Berlin/ESFhttp://bit.ly/1LrPubchttp://bit.ly/1AwzVxKvideo footage: https://vimeo.com/94146775Original paper, paywall access: http://bit.ly/1LPUOoW -- source link
